The history of the widget

Railway

Widgets first introduced in 1920's railways

Widgets were first used in the 1920's during the production of railways. Specifically designed without a patent by Robert Towsey to enable a broad and rapid adoption in multiple sectors.

After 10 years the widget had become commonplace and was widely known as the most important invention of the decade.

The widget is now used in most countries, including the developing world, due to its simple design and the ability to use various materials in its construction.

While new designs emerge each year, the general principles have not changed since the early prototypes of the 1920s.
